Originally a 16th century listed farmhouse, The Hankridge Arms had also been used as a Reeve Court in the 17th century thus establishing a long history of public use.
With the redevelopment of the surroundings as a retail and leisure park, Hall and Woodhouse acquired the derelict property for conversion into a traditional pub, restaurant and conference facility.
The fine decorative plaster over mantle has bee expertly restored and a 19th century fire surround was removed to reveal the original carved timber bressumer and stone piers.
Another 20th Century fireplace conceals the original inglenook. An earlier 18th Century door was found behind the panelling.
Two new extensions to each end of the building accommodate back of house facilities while the original building was left largely unaltered. Highly skilled survey work and negotiation followed by skilled traditional craftsmanship was utilised to repair the structure and the fabric of the building, and to make it fit for its new use in accordance with modern building legislation.
Stone mullen windows, inglenook fireplaces, Oak and Elm panelled partitions, stone floors, lime-washed walls and rare decorative plasterwork have all been carefully retained and repaired. All of these features, together with good quality antiques, tapestries, hand woven carpets and many more bespoke bar and light fittings make the interior areas completely unique.
The present day
We would describe The Hankridge Arms as a bespoke pub/restaurant. Roaring log fires create a warm and friendly ambience for family’s, parties and couples alike.
You can dine in our cosy bar which can sometimes be bustling, or more intimately in our restaurant. Both of which have been refurbished to blend in with the character of the building and both boast beautiful log fires in huge inglenook fireplaces.
Upstairs we have 2 function rooms which are available for every occasion; private parties, wedding parties or business functions, we can accommodate up to 50 people seated or 75 standing. The chef/proprietor ‘Mr Mark Roberts will personally arrange a time to discuss your requirements.
In the summer months our garden has plenty of seating, for those who like to make the most of the sunshine. Mostly laid to lawn and accompanied with beautiful flower beds and a herb garden that is used by our kitchen. We also have two large umbrella’s and a beautiful pergola area which is in flower all summer.
We have ample Parking to the rear of the pub, where the aroma of the kitchen will immediately greet you. Everything we serve is freshly cooked and wherever possible locally produced. Cooked to suit your dietary requirements.
